Tanning

Professional tanning service dedicated to producing high-quality, durable, and beautifully finished hides. Using proven methods and careful attention to detail, we ensure each skin is properly preserved, supple, and built to last.

Dip and Pack

Skulls are simmered in a Large gas controlled vessel to remove all remaining tissue, meat, and fat, they are submerged in a chemical solution to bleach the skull white and kill all bacteria. some species horns are removed from the horn cores to ensure proper cleaning and sterilization, the cores are then carefully cut off to save on crate size.

Hides are submerged in an acid solution with a low pH suitable for the tanning industry with a carefully controlled P.H. Level range of 2.5 to 3 for at least 48 hours. All meat and fat are shaved off from the skins.

Skins are rinsed, dried, and treated Pesticides not harmful to the skins, to prevent any Pest infestation during transit.

Dip and Tanned Capes

Skulls are simmered to remove all remaining tissue, meat, and fat, they are submerged in a chemical solution to bleach the skull white and kill all bacteria. In some species, horns are removed from the horn cores to ensure sterilization, the cores are then removed to save on crate size.

Your capes will enter our state-of-the-art tanning department, where the capes will be fleshed and then tanned using only the best tanning chemicals, the skins will then be dried and treated with carba dust to prevent pest infestation during transit. Once the trophies are received by your taxidermy at home, they need to rehydrate and can start the mounting processes.

Import and Export

At Spirit of Africa Taxidermy we export and import trophies worldwide, we use the services of Badger Cargo who is the leaders in exporting and importing of hunting trophies, we have built a personal working relationship with Badger Cargo.

All trophies are crated in custom built crates at our facility and will be transported to Badger Cargo for export.

If a client has his own shipping agent we will hand over the trophies to their selected agent.

Carpentry

At Spirit of Africa Taxidermy inhouse carpentry is where fine carpentry and professional taxidermy come together.

We specialize in handcrafted mounts, display bases, and custom woodwork designed to complement each taxidermy piece.

Every project is built with precision, durability, and respect for the animal and the craft.

Collection of Trophies

We collect trophies across South Africa for our outfitters and clients, once a hunt is completed and we receive all relevant hunting documentation, we will send our driving team to arrange a time and collection date with the land owner.

Please be aware that some species do require transport permits, as well as quota tags issued by government before we can collect. Our office will arrange this.
